Welcome to the motoring blog for the UJ Observer - The Official Student Newspaper of the University of Johannesburg. This blog is an offshoot of the Observer's newly launched website www.ujobserver.co.za - and with it we aim to bring your online student motoring experience to a broader multimedia experience; with alternative reviews, video reviews and extra picture galleries for the month's features. Enjoy!
On The Safe Side [3/5]
The Alto GLS comes equipped with single driver and passenger (which can’t be deactivated) airbags, ABS and EBD, Isofix child-seat anchorages, and remote central locking which automatically locks the car again if there is no activity for about 30 seconds after unlocking it.
On The Pocket [4/5]
There is one rather major party piece to the Alto – fuel consumption. On a trip from UJ’s APK campus to Hartebeespoort Dam and back – made up of three passengers, photographic equipment and which comprised of city driving and open road cruising in pretty much equal measures – the Alto used a paltry 7.1 liters for the whole 157km round-trip. That’s an average of around 22km/litre or 4.5l/100km – INCREDIBLE! Suzuki launched the Alto at R119 900 and nigh on a year later the price hasn’t changed by a cent. Which is good news, because it means you can get an affordable, funky looking, good to drive, well specced car in a saturated segment of the market at last years price. But, there is no option of a service plan.
